Medals of honours to distinguished employees at TUT

The President of the Republic of Finland granted honorary decorations to distinguished members of the TUT community on the Finnish Independence Day on 6 December 2017. TUT’s President Mika Hannula handed over the decorations along with the related certificates on Thursday.

TUT’s President Mika Hannula congratulated the recipients and thanked them for their dedicated efforts in the service of Tampere University of Technology. Cake and coffee were served in honour of the decorated employees.

One of the recipients is Vice President for Research Jarmo Takala. He was decorated with the medal ‘Knight, First Class, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland”. Before taking up his appointment as vice president, Takala has served as the dean of the Faculty of Computing and Electrical Engineering, as a professor in the Department of Pervasive Computing, as the head of the Department of Computer Systems and as the head of the International Master's Programme in Information Technology. Takala has been a member of numerous academic bodies, such as the Faculty Council and Science Council. Takala has made distinguished scholarly contributions to his field. Before joining academia, he worked at Nokia and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
