TUT team wins Grand Challenge on Light Field Image Coding at ICIP 2017A team from the Laboratory of Signal Processing comprising Professor Ioan Tabus and PhD students Petri Helin and Pekka Astola were awarded first place in the Grand Challenge on Light Field Image Coding for the most innovative algorithm at the ICIP 2017 in Beijing.
At the ICIP 2017 award ceremony, the winners of the Grand Challenge in Light Field Image Coding for the most innovative algorithm were announced to be Ioan Tabus, Petri Helin and Pekka Astola from the Laboratory of Signal Processing at Tampere University of Technology (TUT). Their paper was titled 'Lossy Compression of Lenslet Images from Plenoptic Cameras Combining Sparse Predictive Coding and JPEG 2000'.
The IEEE International Conference in Image Processing, the most prestigious conference in the field of image processing, was held on 17-20 September in Beijing. Starting with this 2017 edition, ICIP hosts grand challenges in research areas deemed to be currently very important for academia and industry. This year's theme was light field image coding.
