PhD Student Position in Computer Vision

Fully funded PhD student position is available in the Computer Vision Group at the Laboratory of Signal Processing at Tampere University of Technology in Finland.

We are a growing research group working broadly in the field of computer vision. We are pursuing research problems in geometric computer vision (including topics such as visual SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, and 3D scene reconstruction), in semantic computer vision (including topics such as image based localization, object detection and recognition, and deep learning), and robot vision (including topics such as human robot interaction).

We are looking for new PhD candidate to our group. Students with good programming skills and strong background in mathematics are especially encouraged to apply. The specific research topics will be chosen together with the students to match their personal interests.

An ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in computer science, signal processing, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent. Also those who are expected to finish their Master's degree by summer 2017 may apply. Previous research experience and publications are beneficial but not required. Good programming skills (e.g. Matlab or C++) and fluency in spoken and written English are required. The starting date is negotiable.

The application instruction can be found from

The review of applications will be done on a rolling basis, so early submissions are strongly encouraged. For informal queries contact Prof. Esa Rahtu (
