The tasks of the Faculty Councils are:

  • to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the faculty’s operational and financial plans;
  • to submit statements to the Academic Board on matters that are of significance to the faculty;
  • to submit initiatives to the Academic Board regarding the establishment and discontinuation of degree programmes;
  • to develop and monitor the operations and quality of degree programmes and to promote consistency and cooperation between degree programmes with regard to basic studies;
  • to appoint members to the steering committees of degree programmes after hearing the departments and the Student Union and to appoint the heads and deputy heads of degree programmes;
  • to approve the content and learning outcomes of degree programmes as well as the learning outcomes, content, extent and names of study modules and courses based on proposals submitted by the steering committees of degree programmes; 
  • to submit statements to the Academic Board regarding student admission criteria;
  • to appoint pre-examiners and opponents for Doctoral dissertations as well as examiners for Licentiate and Master’s theses and to evaluate these theses;
  • to submit statements to the President regarding admission to pursue postgraduate studies at the University;
  • to process requests for remedial action regarding studies;
  • to perform duties related to recruitment assigned to the faculty council;
  • to convene the members of the faculty’s advisory council;
  • to process other matters assigned to it or prescribed for it in the University Regulations.
