Tampere University of Technology can look back on year 2011 with considerable satisfaction. The foundation-based operating model has become firmly established and the University enjoys a high degree of autonomy, providing a solid framework for developing the quality of education and research. TUT Foundation that operates as Tampere University of Technology ended 2011 with a strong balance sheet.
The first comprehensive international Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) covering all the departments was conducted at Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in 2011. The 18-month long preparations culminated in summer, when the faculty-specific expert panels visited the campus.
Confirming our expectations, impact on society was identified as the key strength of the University’s research activities. Scientific quality was estimated to be equal or higher than the world average in all the faculties. The expert panels especially praised the energetic atmosphere across the departments and research groups, the level of competence among research staff, and close collaboration with companies.
