EDGE Laboratory for Architectural and Urban Research
The EDGE laboratory was founded in 2005 to develop and dispose of funding for new research projects. The core research areas comprise the fields of modeling of urban structure and morphological and typological research.
A second research resource of the School of Architecture, the Architectural Media Laboratory (AML), was established in 1998. It developed from TUT's SimLab from the 80s and has since then been responsible for the development activities connected with information intensive expertise and support in the unit’s teaching and research environments. By merging AML with EDGE in the year 2008, the joint laboratory has expanded to become the coordinating research unit of the school as a whole.
EDGE serves as research infrastructure provider for the School, supports when looking for funding channels and assists in the preparation, administration and management of research projects at starting and ongoing levels. The permanent staff of laboratory includes three senior researchers and is supervising professors. In addition the laboratory employs research personnel in various research projects.
The laboratory works in close cooperation with the TUT Virtual Building Laboratory and other national and international research institutes.
