The FOFFI project studied in a systematic way the future industrial development needs and success factors for production, manufacturing processes and business models. The research adressed the specific characteristics of the Finnish industry. The project resulted in the research agenda which provides common guideline for new programs or projects initiation within industry, research organizations, and financiers.

Overall, it can be concluded that in the coming years the companies’ research and development activities will emphasize customer processes and networks. In short term horizon the development focus are the employees. Over four year horizon the current view is that the research and development will be more technologically-oriented. The development themes are combined with aim to achieve international competitive advantage in Finnish production.

The proposed actions are aimed as recommendations for research and funding organizations, labour market organization, the private sector and government. Achieving the aim requires close cooperation and commitment from the above-mentioned parties. With co-operation the Finnish technology industry can be profitable in international competition.
