Software Engineering Research

Our main research themes include

Web and cloud as application platform. The research spans a broad range of topics from the foundations of web applications (as opposed to web pages or documents), mobile web applications and user interaction techniques to topics such as mashup development, client-server partitioning of web applications and collaborative & context-aware web services. For more information see http://lively.cs.tut.fi/ . We are also a partner in ITEA2 project EASI-CLOUDS (http://http://easi-clouds.eu/) that develops technologies for cloud platform federation and development of cloud-aware applications.

Software engineering patterns This team is also active in software architecture analysis, and has a special focus in machine control systems and process automation. For more information see http://patterns.cs.tut.fi

Software architectures. The research ranges from very practical collaboration with local industry to long-term research like deriving software architecture with genetic algorithms in project Darvin

Software development processes For example we have worked on application of agile methods in safety-critical systems and combining architecture work with Scrum pracrices.

Testing methodologies - especially model-base testing. For more information about testing research see http://tema.cs.tut.fi and http://www.testautomation.fi/atac_dev/.

Open Source Software studying topics related to:
        practices of open source development
building and studying open source communities
        mining open source repositories
studying the adoption of open source software
For more information see http://tutopen.cs.tut.fi/

Methods and practices for safety-critical software We have applied our work of software engineering patters, software engineering processes and testing to the areas of safety critical systems. One example of our work is project Ohjelmaturva and we have currently two projects under preparation.
