Pervasive computing in a nutshell

The recent history of Dept. of Pervasive computing leads to a major reorganizing of units in Tampere University of Technology at the end of 2012. Then parts of dept. of Computer Systems and dept. of Communications Engineering were joined with dept. of Software Engineering. The name pervasive computing emphasizes the fact that computers and computing are part of our everyday life - often hidden from the user.

Our research staff consists of 11 professors, 7 assistant professors, 4 research doctors, dozens of researchers and reasearch assistants. Research personnel participates actively in education and instruction as well. In the teaching side, we have 9 fulltime university lecturers.

Department of Pervasive computing resides in Tietotalo, which was build in 2001 (in E-, F-, G- and H-wings of the building).

  Head of the department is professor Tommi Mikkonen.
