Services for business
ORC has been exceptionally successful in developing new technologies and transferring know-how to industrial use. One of the most visible societal impacts of ORC is the establishment of laser diode manufacturing industry in the form of spin-offs in Finland.
For companies, we offer the following ways to collaborate with us. See also the services for business provided by TUT.
Laboratory services
Companies can gain access to our state-of-the-art equipment. We provide various nanofabrication, characterization and surface analysis services for companies and universities.

Commissioned studies
Companies can directly commission research from ORC. It can be a small-scale study, diploma work or a larger collaborative project.
Participating in nationally funded research projects
Companies can collaborate with us by participating for example in projects funded by Tekes. Even a small funding can give the company access into a large research project. Typically, ORC is running about five Tekes-funded projects.
Participating in projects funded by the European Union
We are currently collaborating with the industry in several EU FP7 projects. Please visit the EU website Cordis for information about open calls and collaboration possibilities.
Licensing technology
We also commercialize our research by licensing the technology to the industry. An example of this is the licensing of the manufacturing of a laser measurement system for Nanofoot Finland in 2009.
Laser Competence Centre Finland
To exploit and disseminate our scientific achievements, ORC together with Institute of Production Engineering and Technology Centre Hermia (now Hermia) set up the Laser Competence Centre Finland (LCC Finland) in 2005. LCC Finland is an umbrella organization and network, aiming to enhance the know-how of the latest laser technology and transfer new technology to industry.
The Centre ensures that the companies of the network regularly receive the latest technology news and other services and have access to custom-tailored training of their engineers and clients in relevant laser related technologies. LCC Finland also provides an effective dissemination channel for the companies’ own services and products. LCC Finland is a member of MINAM, IVAM, EPIC, and AILU networks.
