Solar cell research wins best poster prize
Postgraduate student Arto Aho from the Optoelectronics Research Centre of TUT was awarded the best poster prize at the international Euro MBE 2013 conference.
The 17th Euro MBE was held in March, 2013 in Levi, Finland, and brought together nearly 200 members of the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) research community.
Aho's award-winning poster, titled 'High Current Triple Junction Solar Cells Grown by MBE', presented his recent work on the fabrication of high efficiency dilute nitride multijunction solar cells.
Theoretically, these solar cells can convert over 50% of focused sunlight into electricity. In the future, they can offer cheap renewable energy in terrestrial concentrated photovoltaic systems and space solar cell panels.
Aho developed the solar cells in collaboration with his colleagues in the Semiconductor Technology Group of ORC. The research was conducted in the project 'Solar III-V', funded by the Tekes Functional materials program.
