Spin-offs
ORC and the Department of Physics of TUT have either directly or indirectly been involved in setting up the companies shown in the image below. They manufacture or exploit diode lasers, fibre lasers, and light modulation devices.

ORC has played a direct role in the establishment of the following companies.
Coherent Finland (Coherent Inc.)
Formerly Coherent Finland, with production facilities now moved to USA, Coherent Incorporated’s Semiconductor Business Unit manufactures and develops EPI material solutions and components for semiconductor lasers. They are used in many applications and products in the product portfolio of Coherent Inc. Their material and components for their part ensure very competitive solutions for customers in many fields of industry such as scientific research, material processing and microelectronics.
Modulight Inc
Modulight, Inc. is an ISO9001:2008 and ISO14001: 2004 certified semiconductor company, providing value-adding solutions to optical applications for industrial, communication, medical, space and defense industries. To date Modulight has manufactured over one million lasers or laser systems with unparalleled performance and reliability.
Modulight products include various types of lasers from visible to infrared wavelengths with output power levels ranging from milliwats to over hundreds of watts. Modulight also provides laser solutions from design and manufacturing of laser diodes to OEM-based optical sub-systems and turn-key laser systems.
Modulight has production facilities and headquarters in Tampere, Finland and a fully owned subsidiary - Modulight USA, Inc. - based in San Jose, CA. Company’s critical success factors are: Agility, Profitability, Customer focus, and Reliability.
Corelase Oy
Corelase is one of the leading suppliers of fiber laser solutions for material processing applications. Corelase is known to create innovative and optimal solutions to clients’ challenges. Corelase experience and application expertise give benefit to clients in a wide variety of markets.
Corelase was founded in 2003 and became a part of the Rofin Group through an acquisition in 2007. Rofin Group is the world’s leading supplier of high-performance laser beam sources and laser-based solutions.
Corelase distributes Rofin Group’s first-rate marking and micro applications and Dilas diode based laser solutions in Finland. Through Rofin Group, Corelase has a vast worldwide sales and support network.
EpiCrystals Oy
EpiCrystals Oy (est. 2003) develops, manufactures and sells RGB (red, green, blue) laser light sources for picoprojector applications. The company has offices in Tampere and Helsinki and is ISO 9001 certified.
Patent-protected DeCIBEL® laser products allow fabrication of the most compact and cost-efficient projector engines which can be integrated into next generation handheld devices like cell phones, digital cameras and portable media players. DeCIBEL enables the best image quality and brightest true colors due to inherently reduced speckle contrast (‘image noise’) and optimized wavelengths (465 nm blue, 532 nm green and 620 nm red). Products are easy to integrate since simple optics and driving electronics can be used.
By utilizing its high-volume capable supply chain the company seeks high growth in the coming years.
RefleKron Ltd
RefleKron’s main line of business is the commercialization of nonlinear saturable absorber mirrors for controlling the dyna-mic properties of a large variety of laser systems, including fiber lasers, solid state lasers, and semiconductor lasers operating in both mode-locked and Q-switched regimes. The most recent products introduced to the market are high-contrast semiconductor absorbers for Q-switching microchip lasers. The team of experts behind RefleKron has extensive experience in semiconductor technology, laser physics, and ultrafast optics, a unique combination of skills that is highly valued by their customers.
