Studies

The Department of Mathematics offers courses and degree programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Post-graduate level. Doctoral studies can be carried out in one of the main research areas of the department.

IISLab is responsible for teaching hypermedia at TUT. Hypermedia can be chosen as a major or a minor subject, as a part of Information Technology or Science and Engineering degree programmes. Students can focus either on technical implementation of structured information or on general design and management of hypermedia projects. The teachers of hypermedia are also active researchers in their particular fields.

More information on studies in hypermedia can be found at IISLab’s separate home page.

The Computer Science education at the Department of Mathematics focuses on the use of mathematical methods for improving the performance and reliability of software. The courses discuss advanced algorithms, theoretical computer science, machine learning, model checking, and concurrency theory.

The subject can be chosen at the master's and postgraduate levels. The responsible professors are Tapio Elomaa and Antti Valmari.

TUT’s study guides give more information on the structure of studies and the courses provided by the Department of Mathematics.

Master’s Programmes

The Department of Mathematics offers both a minor and a major subject in the International Master’s Programme in Information Technology. The Master’s Programme in Mathematics lasts two years. As per agreement, a mathematics minor subject may also be included in other international master’s programmes at TUT.

Post-Graduate Studies

The post-graduate studies programme leads to the Ph.D. degree or the degree of Doctor of Technology. Subjects of the post-graduate studies at the department usually follow the research topics of the research groups.

Faculty members of the Department of Mathematics are affiliated with the following national graduate schools, which provide financial support for doctoral studies.
