Paper Converting and Packaging

The development challenges of today confronting converted paper and paperboard products that are used in packaging applications include various nanostructures, thin coatings, materials from renewable sources and biodegradable packaging materials. The pilot lines of this research unit are developing processes for extrusion and dispersion coatings, lamination and cast film techniques as well as novel materials and structures for packaging. Also, the pilot lines provide a wide range of possibilities for testing different surface treatment techniques. In the laboratory there are versatile and modern analytical methods for measuring e.g. barrier properties, heat sealability, surface energy and adhesion. Cooperation partners of the research unit are companies in several different industrial sectors including paper and paperboard manufacturers and converters, packaging producers, plastic industry and equipment manufacturers.
