Research

Department of Materials Science is divided into eight operational groups: Materials Science, Materials Characterization, Plastics and Elastomer Technology, Metals Technology, Surface Engineering, Ceramic Materials, Fibre Materials Science, and Paper Converting and Packaging.

Materials Science is responsible for the infrastructure, administration, and teaching at the Department, while the other units concentrate mainly on scientific and applied research in their own areas of expertise.

Two special research units have been formed within DMS or in collaboration with other Departments of the University, i.e., Tampere Wear Center and Laser Application Laboratory.
