The basic idea in all the operations of IHA is to make basic and applied research in fluid power automation area in co-operation with industry, and to improve with intelligent machine automation the efficiency and environmentally friendliness of all kind of hydraulic driven machines and equipment.

The most part of the finance of the departmant is coming from industry via projects carried out together with companies. The idea is to take companies with into the project as early as possible to ensure the right direction for research. The companies are both domestic and international. IHA has also much co-operation with other research departments in TUT as well as with other domestic and international research units.
