The department is an active part of the scientific community and an important societal player in the national society. The staff is very active in developing their fields of interest by taking part of reviewing, editorial and organizational works in different scientific journals, conferences etc. Our staff is also widely recognized keynotes and commentators regarding the phenomena of their fields.

The mission of the project is to help Finnish cities and departments of Finnish government to develop traffic and land use planning, control political decision-making and promote cycling and walking as traffic modes and daily exercise. Professor Mäntynen believes that in future the global air traffic will be controlled by big global airlines.
