Studies

The education activities at the Department cover both B.Sc. and M.Sc. level degrees, as well as the doctoral degree which requires clear contributions to the scientific understanding in the research areas of the department. B.Sc. level studies are intended for Finnish students only, whereas M.Sc. and doctoral studies are offered also for international students.

The amount of teaching staff at the Department is around 25, and in practice, the majority of the researchers also participate in teaching.

The courses consist of a variety of teaching methods – not only lectures, but also exercises, seminars, laboratory work and web-based teaching.

The education at the department is distinctive for its’ multidisciplinary and international approach. Biomedical engineering extends to almost every field of engineering by offering education to several degree programmes beyond faculty borders. It combines engineering seamlessly to science by applying the methods of physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology among others.

English as the language of instruction, the international master’s degree programme hosted by the department and the development of international e-Learning are tokens of the department’s international approach.

International Master’s Degree Programme in Information Technology

The International Master’s Degree Programme in Information Technology equips students with basic abilities in scientific work in the field and with the general ability to perform the tasks of an IT engineer. The profession includes the design, implementation and technical applications of systems based on data processing, automation and data transmission, without excluding abilities to work as a researcher, teacher or manager. In addition, students can utilise their information technology knowledge in other branches of engineering.

The International Master's Degree Programme in Information Technology is available for all Finnish and international students, who have completed a B.Sc. degree in a field related to the discipline. More information, for example description of the application process and the areas of specialisation, is available at the degree programme's own web-site.

International Master's Degree Programme in Electrical Engineering

The International Master's Degree Programme in Electrical Engineering offers qualified students a two-year programme of study in one of the following areas: RF electronics, wireless communications and smart grids in electrical energy distribution. The programme includes partly the same studies as the former Master's Degree Programme in Radio Frequency Electronics.

The International Master's Degree Programme in Electrical Engineering is available for those who hold a B.Sc. degree preferably in electronics. More information, for example description of the application process, is available at the degree programme's own web-site.
