High voltage engineering and measurements
The research group of High voltage laboratory has a wide experience on experimental and theoretical research on electrical insulating materials and high voltage engineering, especially on diagnostics and monitoring of high voltage equipment as well as the behaviour of materials and equipment in different extreme weather conditions. In recent years the investigations on novel electrically insulating polymer hybrid materials and nanocomposites have been one of the major research areas.
Besides the academic research topics the investigations and measurements have been conducted in close co-operation with material and component manufacturers and with electric utilities. The group has a long experience of studies and testing on e.g. high voltage insulators, surge arresters, capacitors, reactors, disconnectors and cables. The Department has a new, up-to-date equipped High Voltage Laboratory with special Climate room (100 m3) and Clean room facility. The diagnostics and measuring equipment in the laboratory are of international top-level. The research group belongs to the national Graduate School of Electrical Engineering. This means that each researcher making a doctoral thesis has a personal supervising group.
