The Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) gives the highest education in it's area and practises high level research which have social impact and international scientific scope.  Education and research areas of the Department involve electrical power energy, high voltage engineering, electricity network and market, power electronics, reliability, electromagnetism, electrical drives and switched-mode converter design.

As part of the International Master´s Degree Programme of Electrical Engineering at Tampere University of Technology (TUT) the Department offers education (in english) in the area of Smart Grids in Electrical Energy Distribution.

The objective of the department is to be internationally leveled actor when solving challenges in electrical energy engineering regarding especially management of climate change and renewable energy systems. Focus areas of the research are new energy sources, electrification of traffic and work machines, requirements of energy efficiency, smart grids and new network solutions.
