Nokia Ubimedia MindTrek Award Entries

The Nokia Ubimedia MindTrek Awards was an international competition arranged by MindTrek, Nokia, NAMU Lab. – Tampere University of Technology, and the Tampere Region Centre of Expertise in Ubiquitous Computing.  The purpose of the competition was to encourage makers of digital media to generate ideas and develop new and innovative ubiquitous media products & services. The entries were expected to take a stand on the question, how ubiquitous computing affects intelligent media environments and what the future of location-and context aware media services might look like.

  Donkeypedia (1st place)

Donkeypedia is a cross media project with a donkey that travels through European nations, a quest for the identity of children and youngsters. Children will collect stories, art expressions, movies and objects that represent something essential about their place and its residents.

  PING: The Smart Trash Bin (2nd place)

PING is a smart kitchen trash bin that monitors and measures both waste and recyclable materials that users throw away. This data is sent to a Web portal where carbon footprint calculations are compiled for each household and for all PING users as a whole.

  Aulura: Luring and engaging people with ambient persuasive technologies (special mention)

Aulura is an interactive frame device that draws users’ attention by reacting to the presence of people, adjusting its content and interactivity as they are triggered to approach the device. It draws users to inspect data regarding their activity and provides feedback regarding their achievements.

  Assishop - a good assistant in shopping trip

Assishop helps people enjoy their shopping according to its name. Assishop provides several critical functions: indoor location with a  room  level accuracy based on WiFi signals,  and  then retrieve shop information; barcode recognition based on camera scanning, and then retrieve commodity information using barcode and position; interaction with each other by comments.
