Requirements

Educational qualifications

The applicant must have a three- or four-year Bachelor of Science degree from an internationally recognized university in the field applicable to the major studies. The overall grade (CGPA) of the degree should be at least 70 % of the maximum marks.

Suitable background degrees

Bioimaging:
Bachelor of Science degree in the field of

  • Measurement and information technology or
  • Bioinformatics or
  • Biomedical engineering or
  • Physics or
  • other discipline related to the programme with proficiency in physics or mathematics and elementary programming skills

Biomeasurements:
Bachelor of Science degree in the field of

  • Measurement and information technology or
  • Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering or
  • Automation technology or
  • Biomedical engineering or
  • Electronics or
  • other discipline related to the programme with proficiency in physics, chemistry and elementary programming skills

Biotechnology:
Bachelor of Science degree in the field of

  • natural sciences or
  • biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, fermentation or other bioprocess technologies, bioengineering, cell biology or
  • other discipline related to the programme with proficiency in physics, chemistry and elementary programming skills.

Information Technology for Health and Biology:
Bachelor of Science degree as an example in the field of

  • Mathematics
  • Signal processing
  • Computer science
  • Physics
  • Biosciences with a basic knowledge of information technology
  • other discipline related to the programme. Solid mathematical background and satisfactory programming skills are recommended. 

Nanotechnology:
Bachelor of Science degree in the field of

  • chemistry or
  • electronics or
  • physics or
  • mathematics or
  • other discipline related to the programme with proficiency in physics, chemistry and elementary programming skills.

Persons who hold a BSc degree from a Finnish Polytechnic (or university of applied sciences) do not qualify for this programme.

Language skills

The official language of the programme is English, so a good command of the English language is an absolute prerequisite. Students whose mother tongue is not English are required to submit a certificate of their language proficiency. English-speaking countries are: Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the USA.

One of the following language tests is required:

  •  TOEFL (min. score 79 in the internet-based test, 213 in the computer-based test and 550 in the paper-based test
  •  IELTS (score 6.0 or higher)
  • Cambridge Language Certificate (Proficiency CPE or Advanced CAE) (grade "C" or higher)
  • PTE (score 53 or higher)
