Requirements for applicants in Business and Technology

Studies in Business and Technology2

The application process is highly competitive, and student admission is based on the candidates academic qualifications and merits as demonstrated in the application documents. Only a limited number of the most highly qualified students may be accepted to the programme.

Admission to the programme requires that applicants meet the minimum requirements concerning their educational qualifications and language skills, which are explained in further detail below.

Please note that the application period has been changed; the application period is from 3 December till 28 February. The application has to reach TUT by the deadline.

Educational qualifications

  • The applicant must have minimum a three-year Bachelor of Science degree from an internationally recognised university that is listed in the latest edition of the International Handbook of Universities.
  • The BSc degree should be in the field of engineering or technology with proficiency in mathematics and physics.

It is an advantage if the overall grade (CGPA) of the degree is at least 70 % of the maximum marks.

Language requirements

The language test is obligatory, even if the candidate received his/her education in English. Please note that inadequate applications cannot be processed.

The official language of the Programme is English, so a good command in the English language is an absolute prerequisite.

Please note that all the applicants whose native language is not English must take an official language test either by IELTS, TOEFL or CPE/CAE. One of the following language tests is required:

  • IELTS (min. score 6.5)
  • TOEFL (min. score 237 in computer-based test, 92 in the internet-based test or 580 in paper-based test)
  • PTE Academic (min. score 62)
  • Cambridge Language Certificate (Proficiency CPE or Advanced CAE) (grade "C" or higher)

The score reports can be sent to TUT from the testing centre. The TOEFL code of Tampere University of Technology is 0599. TUT has no institutional code for other language tests.

The language test must be taken before the application deadline. Applicants are required to attach the official language test report to their application, with the exception of the IELTS language test in which case a copy of the results is accepted.

Please note that any other language certificate or free-form statement will not be accepted.
