Master´s Degree Programme in Architecture
The Master’s Degree Programme in Architecture is intended for students who are creative, have excellent design skills and the ability to work in an international environment and who plan to practice architecture professionally. The degree obtained upon completion of the Master’s Degree Programme in Architecture corresponds to the Finnish degree of "Arkkitehti" and confers eligibility to work as an architect in Finland and other EU countries (according to the 2005/36/EC EU Directive) or to apply for admission to doctoral studies. The degree prepares graduates to pursue a wide range of career opportunities as professional architects and in research.
The School of Architecture
The School of Architecture at Tampere University of Technology was founded in 1969. For over 40 years, the School has aimed to provide students with a broad general understanding of the fundamentals of architecture on which to build their expertise already during the programme and later on throughout their careers. The quality of education offered by the School of Architecture, combined with Finnish know-how in the design field, is internationally recognized and known to provide an excellent foundation for working anywhere in the world.
Our way
Excellence, efficiency, equity and internationalization are the keywords that best represent our current and future aims. The School of Architecture fosters a hands-on and project based approach to learning, deriving from the belief that design is not an overriding point of departure but rather a means through which architects can contribute decisively and positively to the optimal development of the built environment from small to large scale. The idea is to keep social, environmental and technical problems as the starting point for generating architectural solutions that embrace technical, aesthetical and cultural values with an innovative vision.
The strategy of the School is expressed through the following values:
-
A humanistic and wide-ranging approach to architectural disciplines
-
Problem-based learning
-
An international environment
-
An informal and proactive atmosphere
Facilities at the School of Architecture
The School of Architecture provides students with access to digital media facilities: two advanced computer labs (equipped with PCs and MACs), scanners, printers, a high-quality large format colour plotter, architectural software solutions and integrated design tools. In addition, a free wireless network is available on campus, accessible via the School’s computers and students' own laptops. We also have a reference library that stores architectural books and journals. Facilities include open spaces with drawing tables for all students, a crafts workroom and an art studio.
Learning Environment
Thanks to its relative small size and the number of foreign students (40-50 per year), the environment at the School of Architecture is familiar and yet multicultural. Staff and students constitute a close-knit community that supports teaching and learning. Professors are easy to approach and teacher-student relationships are informal.
