Tampere is a hub for leading-edge technology, research, education, culture, sports and business. It is one of the three most rapidly developing regions in Finland and the largest inland centre in the Nordic countries. More than 213,000 inhabitants wake up every morning in Tampere and close to half a million in Tampere Region, which comprises Tampere and its neighboring municipalities.

The urban environment in Tampere is pleasant and safe. The city centre is surrounded by a landsape of lakes and ridges, situated on an isthmus between lakes Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi. The Tammerkoski rapids run through the city.
The city is packed with places to go and things to do. Tampere is the theatre capital of Finland. There are two large theatres and several smaller theatre groups that operate in the city. Tampere hosts a multitude of festivals in different fields and the city has an active rock scene as well. For sporty people the city offers indoor swimming pools, ice stadiums, indoor sports centres, facilities for outdoor activities, etc. The city has a friendly atmosphere with plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs, wide avenues and beautiful parks and gardens.
A key characteristic of a well-functioning city is that travelling to and within the urban area is easy. Tampere is ideally located in the middle of Finland with good traffic connections. The city can be reached easily either by car, bus, train or plane.
